DIY Batik Wall Hanging...

I saw this Batik Dye Wall Hanging on Pinterest the other day & thought I would give it a try....Usually I post on Friday what I PLAN on doing that weekend but sometimes I get sidetracked so I decided to try this then post....

This took some time but I enjoyed it...
You need the following...

  •  A piece of fabric...I would suggest something lighter than what I used which was heavy cotton...
  • Pencil
  • Beeswax
  • A paintbrush... you will throw it away after...
  • Dye of your color choice...

I drew out my design on the fabric.....Heat the beeswax up in a double boiler.........you want it very hot to soak into the fabric.....So be careful when you begin to paint.... This is the part that took time...

That is why I suggested a lighter fabric...so the beeswax absorbs all the way through....Because I used a heavy cotton, I had to hang it in the window & trace over the lines from the back or else the dye would absorb everywhere...

After the beeswax dried, I dipped the cloth into the dye bath ...for this I dipped it maybe a few minutes then I laid it out & dropped straight dye onto some areas...I rinsed out some areas of the cloth so I ended up with a mottled look....like faded jeans...
Then it was out to dry in the sunshine...
After it is thoroughly dry,  you place paper towels over the fabric ..I had to place them under as well...& with a hot iron go over it to melt the wax which the paper towels absorb leaving your design visible...
& Voila!!!
This reminds me of cut off shorts...my design did not come out as clear as the original version but I like the faded look...
Now to decide if I want to add anything more...fabric background, beads, macrame, grommets.......decisions decisions!!   So as soon as I finish it I will post the results...

Oh  I wanted to add an update to my post on the Lunar Moth based on questions I received from some of you.....first I was wrong....it is a He not a She...you can tell by the antenna..the males have more hair on them to pick up the pheromones the female releases into the air......He dies right after they mate & she does as soon as she lays up to 200 eggs.....They are not only rare but are now an endangered species thanks to all that wonderful toxic pollution released into Nature....So if you see one enjoy every minute...there may come a time when we will no longer see them.
Have a great week everyone!!

The Luna Faerie....

I believe that faeries exist...They are very elusive... Some of them live by the Moon but only for a short time...such as this Luna beauty....
If you look closely you can see her...I can see a smiling face in the cream colored area....

Luna moths are rare to see as they are only out at night & only live for about a week...They only live to reproduce & have no mouth so they do not eat...Isn't that strange...

Folklore gives some symbolic meaning to seeing a Luna moth...it can signify rebirth, new beginnings & transformation as they are creatures that can completely transform into a new being..The  Luna Moth is nocturnal  gravitating toward moonlight to orientate itself in the night... a  seeking out the light...aka truth & knowledge... when in darkness..
Whatever the meaning...it was a treat to wake up to see her gracing our door....After taking a few pictures...I sent her on her way....the girls were looking at her as a snack...

Wednesday Women- Sulamith Wülfing

"Sulamith Wülfing (January 11, 1901 – 1989) was a German artist and illustrator. Her ethereal, enigmatic works depict fairy tales or mystical subjects.
Born in Elberfeld, Rhine Province to Theosophist parents Karl and Hedwig Wülfing, as a child Sulamith had visions of angels, fairies, gnomes, and nature spirits. She first began drawing these creatures at the age of four. The visions continued throughout her life, and directly inspired her paintings."

Her art is a favorite of Stevie Nicks...in fact it inspired The Wild  Heart album cover & some of her songs...These are just a few of her gorgeous artwork......
Enjoy!

Chicken Chronicles......New Family

So it has been awhile since I posted on the girls...Time to meet the new babies...
I still have two more coming.....The Barred Rock...they are the black & white ones.....like Chicklet....the fox got my last one a few weeks ago.... so there has been some stronger security added...
I am thinking one may be a rooster...his comb is a bit redder than the others...
They are in the newly renovated summer house & having a ball....They have the whole place to themselves...post coming on the house when the roof is done...
 lots of stair jumping....
 water breaks....
 snack time....
 & nap time....
I am sure the older girls will not like this...
In the meantime....Ignorance is bliss ...
More adventures later...

Full Flower Moon

Tonight's Full Moon is a Luna Eclipse Super Moon...the most powerful Moon this year...It is also the closest to Earth it can get... I love what Mystic Mamma has to say about it...
It is also called the Full Flower Moon.....I know many of my flowers are ready to burst open as soon as the rain stops...Lilacs, Peonies, Roses....
Too bad there are so many clouds tonight...I will miss seeing it.....We can still enjoy the powerful energy coming from her on this full moon....

Have a peaceful night...

Happy Birthday Bob Dylan!!

Thanks to A Vintage Green Life for reminding me...
Happy 72nd Dylan!!

DIY Friday- Old Door Redo...

My latest project is a table for my studio...I need something to spread things out on...I have had this around since last year with the idea that I would use this for a table...
So I have been on hold waiting for the rain to leave so I can start work on it...Much of the paint is coming right off but it needs a good drying out now...I need to do a bit of repair work around the windows ..then put plexiglass on top  for a smoothier surface to work on...
I would like to put photos of my ancestors in the windows but.....If the window area cannot be saved I have envisioned something like this... Maybe make some grill work from old wire I have???  Maybe...If the windows cannot be saved...

I plan on using these legs from this table unless I can find some that are a bit chunkier...
So we will see what results....when the rain stops...In the meantime, I am making a Grandmother's Flower Garden Quilt...baby size for my granddaughter....with lots of love sewn in...I will post pics after I finish...

Have a great weekend everyone!!

Mooncatcher.....

So it was time to take a break from everything else to just make something fun...So I made a Mooncatcher......Now if this cloud cover would just move out so I can see what it looks like under the Moonlight...

There were a couple moments of sun so I know how pretty it looks with that part of Nature...even with the clouds the light was good enough to make it look very magical...
With the Honeysuckle & Crabapple flowers right outside the window, this is nice to look at in my meditation room...
It was easy to make....a piece of driftwood, white sea glass & a Quartz crystal that are wired, chain, fishing line, a small Amethyst crystal which I will hang some Moonstone on when they arrive, a couple silver bead,  a  & a long string of  crystal seed beads to drape on the driftwood...attach with jump rings to the chain & tie the sea glass with fishing line...

Hang in the window & enjoy...

Now to wait for the Full Moon on the 25th.... the next question...will I be able to get a picture with it under the moonlight...
To be continued.....
:)
